McCormick Place Convention Center West Expansion Project

Corporate Connections

Communication – Early & Often, Open & Inclusive

Mc4West is committed to communicating the project message and all that it encompasses to assist agencies and community organizations that are interested in the McCormick Place West Expansion. Our presentation consists of a project overview; our affirmative action program entitled Corporate Connections and our goal structure.

Mc4West has established its Corporate Connections program that is designed to help remove the barriers to the formation and growth of minority and women-owned businesses.

Major Contractors Program is essentially for established contractors with sufficient resources, experience, bonding capacity and technical capability to perform a component of the work. Mc4West is working to identify scopes appropriate for local MBE/WBE firms. These scopes will be negotiated for award.

Small Projects Program targets contracts and purchases under $5 million to small contractors and vendors for the supply of construction materials, supplies, tools and general items. The intent is to create a First Seek supplier initiative that will be utilized by the entire project team and all subcontractors.

Mentor/Protégé Program promotes a relationship in which a non-minority firm teams with a certified MBE/WBE firm on the project and agrees to support the development of the MBE/WBE firm through training and assistance in various areas.

Emerging Firms Program addresses the challenge of increasing the capacity of MBE/WBE firms on the project through subcontract opportunities that demonstrate an increase in the firm's historical scope of work.

Finance Initiative addresses access to financial markets as well as start-up funding, stretch-bonding, prompt pay provisions, and mobilization funds.

Education Initiative focuses on increasing awareness through recruitment, mentoring, scholarships, and professional training. This initiative is geared to both students and existing contractors.

Employment Strategies will include a database of local qualified construction workers for referral to awarded contractors, job fairs to provide information to those interested in construction jobs, trade-by-trade goals and contractual commitments for hiring community residents.

These strategies are designed to achieve the program goals within the context of the highest possible level of participation by local MBE/WBE firms and community minority female workers. The Mc4West designed comprehensive program will meet and exceed all established program numerical goals.
